Doors gives players very few tools to actively fight back against the hotel's entities. The crucifix is the most powerful of those tools โ and also the most commonly misused. If you have been asking why the Doors crucifix is not working, the answer is almost always one of three things: wrong entity, wrong timing, or a known bug. This guide covers all of them.
What the crucifix actually does
The crucifix is a rare item found in drawers, chests, or bought from the shop. When equipped and used at the right moment, it banishes or significantly delays certain entities โ essentially buying you a free pass on an encounter that would otherwise be fatal.
It has a limited number of uses per item (typically one or two charges). Once charges are spent, the item is gone. This makes wasting a crucifix on an incompatible entity one of the most costly mistakes in a run.
Which entities the crucifix works on
| Entity | Crucifix effective? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Rush | Yes | Banishes Rush immediately when used |
| Ambush | Yes | Stops Ambush and all its passes |
| Halt | Yes | Effective during Halt's back-and-forth |
| Screech | Yes | Removes Screech before it strikes |
| Figure | Yes (partial) | Stuns Figure temporarily, does not kill |
| Seek | No | Chase sequence cannot be stopped |
| Eyes | No | Eyes do not interact with crucifix |
| Jack | No | Jump-scare events are scripted |
| Timothy | No | Drawer scare is not entity combat |
| Hide | No | Passive mechanic, not applicable |
| Dupe | No | Puzzle mechanic, not an entity encounter |
The most important thing to memorize: Seek cannot be stopped by the crucifix. Players who try to use it during the Seek chase waste a charge and still die.
Common reasons the crucifix seems not to work
1. Wrong entity
As the table above shows, only a subset of entities respond to the crucifix. Using it on Eyes, Seek, or during a Jack jump-scare consumes a charge with zero effect.
2. Using it too late
The crucifix has a short activation window. If Rush has already reached your character model before the animation completes, the entity deals damage despite the crucifix being raised. You need to use it when you hear the audio cue, not when you see Rush in the doorway.
3. Lag or input delay
On high-ping servers or mobile devices, the crucifix animation fires on your client but the server registers the action after Rush has already processed the hit. This is a known network issue and is functionally the same as the Figure heartbeat bug โ server-side validation fails due to latency.
| Timing condition | Outcome |
|---|---|
| Used before entity enters room | Full banish |
| Used as entity enters doorway | Usually works |
| Used after entity is mid-room | Often fails, consumes charge |
| Used on wrong entity | Charge consumed, no effect |
4. Bug with stacked encounters
In rare cases, two entities spawning near-simultaneously (Rush + Screech, for example) can cause the crucifix to target one while the other deals damage. This is not working as intended and has been reported to the development team.
How to use the crucifix correctly
- Equip it before danger zones. Have it in hand before you enter rooms 40โ60 where Rush frequency increases.
- Listen for audio. Rush has a distinctive roar and light flicker. Use the crucifix the moment lights start flickering, not after.
- For Figure, use it when Figure begins actively patrolling toward your hiding spot. It buys time but does not end the encounter.
- Never use it speculatively. Do not raise the crucifix just because a room feels dangerous. Save charges for confirmed entity spawns.
If you are grinding the shop trying to find crucifixes, spending some Robux on shop refreshes can speed up access to the items you need.
FAQ
Can I find the crucifix in the shop?
Yes, the crucifix occasionally appears in the mid-run shop for a knob cost. It is not always available โ stock varies per run.
Does the crucifix have more than one charge?
Standard crucifixes have one or two charges depending on the version found. The item description shows remaining charges when you have it selected.
Can the crucifix stop Figure permanently in the Library?
No. Using the crucifix on Figure stuns it for a short duration but Figure resumes patrol afterward. You still need to complete the Library section while avoiding Figure.
Does the crucifix work in Floor 2?
The crucifix carries over to Floor 2 functionality-wise, but Floor 2 has entities that do not respond to it. Verify the entity type before using it in the Mines.
Is there a crucifix exploit or glitch to get infinite uses?
Occasionally glitches surface that allow extra charges, but these are typically patched quickly. Playing normally and managing charges carefully is the reliable approach.
