How to Install Minecraft After Key Activation

Once you've redeemed your Minecraft key at microsoft.com/redeem, the game is in your Microsoft library. Here's how to actually download and install both Java and Bedrock editions.

Method 1: Xbox App (Recommended for Bedrock)

The Xbox app is the primary way to install Minecraft Bedrock Edition on Windows.

Install the Xbox App

1. Open the Microsoft Store on Windows
2. Search for "Xbox"
3. Install the Xbox app (if not already installed)

Install Minecraft Bedrock

1. Open the Xbox app
2. Sign in with the Microsoft account where you redeemed the key
3. Click My Library in the left sidebar
4. Find Minecraft in your games list
5. Click Install
6. Choose your installation location
7. Wait for download (size: ~900 MB to 2 GB depending on version)

Method 2: Microsoft Store

Alternatively, you can install Bedrock through the Microsoft Store:

1. Open Microsoft Store (Start menu → Microsoft Store)
2. Click your profile icon → My Library
3. Find Minecraft for Windows
4. Click Install

Method 3: Minecraft Launcher (Java Edition)

Java Edition requires the Minecraft Launcher, which is separate from the Xbox app.

Download the Launcher

1. Go to minecraft.net
2. Click Download for Windows
3. Install the Minecraft Launcher application
4. Launch it and sign in with your Microsoft account

Install Java Edition

1. In the Minecraft Launcher, click Minecraft Java Edition on the left
2. Click Play (it will download the game files automatically)
3. Wait for the download (~500 MB to 1 GB)
4. Game launches after download completes

The Minecraft Launcher also lets you install Bedrock Edition — both versions are available within the same launcher.

Troubleshooting: Game Not Showing in Library

If Minecraft doesn't appear in your library after redemption:

1. Wait 5–10 minutes: Sync can take a moment
2. Sign out and back in: Refresh your library
3. Check your account: Make sure you're signed in to the same Microsoft account used for redemption
4. Restart the Xbox app: Close completely (system tray) and reopen
