Telegram on Airalo eSIM Abroad — Where It Works, Where You Need a VPN
Telegram is the default messenger for many travelers — personal chats, work groups, channels, and booking bots all live there. How It Works
Telegram uses its own MTProto protocol and a fixed set of server IPs. When a country blocks Telegram, ISPs block those IPs and the telegram.org DNS records. Airalo eSIM uses the local carrier of whichever country you're in, so it inherits those blocks.

UAE quirk: Telegram text chat and file sharing work, but in-app voice/video calls are blocked at the DPI level. Same as WhatsApp.
What You Need to Set Up
Full-block countries (China, Iran, Turkmenistan)
- Install your VPN app before flying (NordVPN, ExpressVPN, Mullvad with obfuscation)
