Telegram Privacy Features 2026 — Secret Chats, Hidden Numbers, Fragment
In 2026 Telegram remains the most privacy-friendly mainstream messenger — it has more privacy controls than WhatsApp, Signal, or iMessage. Here is the full set of key features in one place: from end-to-end-encrypted secret chats to fully anonymous numbers minted on a blockchain.
Secret Chats
The flagship privacy feature. Only Secret Chats use end-to-end MTProto 2.0 encryption — messages are encrypted on the sender's device and decrypted only on the recipient's. Telegram servers see an encrypted stream with no access to the contents.

Start via the contact's profile → ⋮ → Start Secret Chat. The chat lives only between two specific devices — it will not appear on your tablet.
Visibility settings (Privacy & Security)
Under Settings → Privacy and Security you set who sees what:
- Phone number — Nobody / My Contacts / Everybody
- Last seen & online — three options plus exception lists
- Profile photo — who sees your avatar
- Bio — who reads your description
- Forwarded messages — whether your account can be linked when forwarded
- Calls — who can call you
- Voice messages (Premium only) — who can send you voice notes
- Groups & channels — who can add you

Two-factor authentication (2FA)
