How to Install Airalo eSIM on Android — Samsung, Pixel, Xiaomi
On Android you install Airalo eSIM through the system SIM settings. The exact menu name varies by maker: Samsung calls it SIM Manager, Google Pixel calls it SIMs, Xiaomi calls it SIM cards & mobile networks. The principle is the same: add the eSIM with a QR code, set it as the data line, then enable roaming.
What you need
- An eSIM-capable Android phone: Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, Z Fold/Flip, Google Pixel 3 and newer (with some regional exclusions), Xiaomi 12T Pro / 13 / 14, OPPO Find X3+, Honor Magic 4+, OnePlus 11+
- Wi-Fi or mobile data
- Your Airalo QR code, viewable on a second screen or printed
- An unlocked phone (no carrier lock)
Step-by-step installation
Samsung Galaxy (One UI 5/6/7)
- Settings → Connections → SIM Manager.
- Tap Add eSIM → Scan carrier QR code.
- Hold the camera over the QR shown on another screen.
- When Samsung finds the Airalo plan, tap Add.
- Confirm Download eSIM. Loading takes under a minute.
- After activation, name the profile — Airalo or Travel.
- In SIM Manager flip the toggle next to Airalo to make the line active.
Google Pixel (Android 14/15)
- Settings → Network & internet → SIMs.
- Tap + Add eSIM (or Download a SIM instead? when prompted for a physical one).
- Use QR code → scan it.
- Download → Done.
- Name the profile and flip its toggle on.
Xiaomi / Redmi (MIUI 14, HyperOS)
- Settings → SIM cards & mobile networks → eSIM.
- Add eSIM → Scan QR code.
- After the profile downloads, tap Activate.
- If Xiaomi has no eSIM menu, your regional firmware likely disabled it — switch to Global ROM.
After installation
- Set Airalo as the data line: Samsung — SIM Manager → Mobile data → Airalo. Pixel — SIMs → Mobile data → Airalo. Xiaomi — SIM cards & mobile networks → Mobile data → Airalo.
- Turn on data roaming only for Airalo: open the Airalo profile in SIM Manager → Data roaming → ON.
- Disable mobile data on your home SIM to avoid roaming charges from your home carrier.
- Leave calls and SMS on your home SIM — Airalo is a data-only eSIM, voice calls are not supported.
Common gotchas
- No eSIM menu — regional firmware does not support eSIM (common on Xiaomi and OnePlus with China ROM). Solved by flashing Global firmware.
- "Unable to download eSIM" — turn off VPN, switch to Wi-Fi and retry. Airalo servers sometimes block installs over proxies.
- No data after landing — pick the carrier manually: Airalo profile → Mobile networks → disable Automatic and choose the recommended carrier from your plan instructions.
