Airalo eSIM on iPhone 15 — Install, Dual eSIM and Transfer
iPhone 15 and 15 Pro are fully compatible with Airalo. Important detail: the US version of iPhone 15 (models A2846, A2847, A2848, A3081, A3082, A3083) has no physical SIM tray at all — it is eSIM-only. European and international models still have a nano-SIM tray plus one or two eSIM slots.
What you need
- iPhone 15 / 15 Plus / 15 Pro / 15 Pro Max on iOS 17 or iOS 18
- Wi-Fi or data on your main line
- Airalo QR code on a separate screen
- An unlocked iPhone (especially important for US carrier-purchased units)
Step-by-step installation
- Open the QR on a second screen — laptop, tablet, another phone.
- On iPhone 15: Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM.
- Pick Use QR Code.
- Aim the camera at the QR. iPhone 15 recognises it in a second.
- Continue → Add eSIM. Activation takes up to 90 seconds.
- Label the line Airalo or Travel.
- On the Default Line screen keep your primary number.
- On the iMessage & FaceTime screen keep your primary number.
- On the Cellular Data screen pick Airalo.
Dual eSIM on iPhone 15

- Add Airalo with the steps above.
- In Settings → Cellular both lines appear in the list.
- Set Airalo as the primary data line and leave your home eSIM for calls and SMS.

Transfer Airalo eSIM from an older iPhone
If you already had Airalo installed on an iPhone 12/13/14 and the plan is still active:
- eSIM Quick Transfer: during initial iPhone 15 setup choose Transfer from iPhone, or later go to Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → Transfer From Another iPhone. The old iPhone confirms the request and the Airalo line moves over automatically.
- Reinstall: delete the profile on the old iPhone, open the Airalo app and tap Reinstall on the plan (free once per plan), then scan the new QR on iPhone 15.
After installation
- Turn on Data Roaming for the Airalo line: Settings → Cellular → Airalo → Data Roaming → ON. Without this, data will not work abroad even after landing.
- On the US eSIM-only iPhone 15, make sure at least one line is active — otherwise you cannot call emergency services.
- Turn off automatic data line switching: Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data Switching → OFF. This stops the iPhone from falling back to your expensive home SIM when Airalo signal dips.
