We cover 6 of the most common GearUP Booster issues: server connection errors, ping not dropping, FPS falling, game not launching. Step-by-step fixes for each.
GearUP fails to connect to the server
Symptoms: Status shows "Connection error" or "Failed to connect", the Boost button does not activate, message "Connection failed" or "Server error".
Cause: Usually blocked by antivirus, Windows Firewall or your ISP.
- Disable your antivirus and try again โ Kaspersky, Dr.Web, ESET and Windows Defender can block GearUP network components. Temporarily disable real-time protection and try connecting.
- Add GearUP to Windows Firewall exceptions โ Start โ Windows Firewall โ Allow an app through the firewall โ Find GearUP โ check "Private" and "Public" network.
- Run GearUP as administrator โ Right-click the GearUP shortcut โ "Run as administrator". Some functions require admin rights.
- Reinstall the GearUP network driver โ In GearUP โ Settings โ "Reinstall driver", or uninstall GearUP completely via Control Panel and reinstall from scratch.
GearUP is connected but ping is not dropping
Symptoms: Status shows "Connected" but in-game ping is unchanged; GearUP interface shows booster ping equals direct ping; change is noticeable but minimal (1โ5 ms).
Cause: Either your ISP route is already optimal or the wrong server region is selected.
- Try a different region in GearUP โ Open the game card โ change server region. If set to "Auto", try selecting manually the region your game actually connects to.
- Check with the Ping Test โ GearUP has a built-in Ping Test that shows the difference between the direct route and the GearUP route for each region. Pick the region with the biggest improvement.
- Confirm the game launched after GearUP โ Close the game, click Boost in GearUP, wait for "Connected" status, then relaunch the game. If the game was started before GearUP the booster cannot intercept traffic.
- Accept a 0 ms difference if it occurs โ Some ISPs already provide an excellent direct route to the game server. GearUP will not harm performance but also will not help in this case.
FPS drops after enabling GearUP
Symptoms: FPS dropped by 10โ30 frames after launching GearUP, game started stuttering, CPU temperature increased.
Cause: GearUP processes traffic on the CPU. Conflict with antivirus or the network driver creates extra load.
- Add the GearUP folder to antivirus exceptions โ The antivirus scans every packet GearUP intercepts โ doubling the load. Add C:\Program Files\GearUP to your antivirus whitelist.
- Update or reinstall the network driver โ An outdated network card driver can create a bottleneck. Open Device Manager โ Network adapters โ your card โ Update driver.
- Close unnecessary apps โ GearUP uses minimal resources but CPU contention can add up. Close your browser, Discord screen share and any streams.
Game does not launch after enabling GearUP
Symptoms: Game does not open at all, launcher hangs on startup, error when launching the game via the Play button in GearUP.
Cause: Conflict between GearUP's network driver and the game's anti-cheat or launcher.
- Launch the game directly, not through GearUP โ Click Boost in GearUP, but launch the game via Steam/Epic/shortcut instead of the Play button in GearUP. This bypasses the conflict for some games.
- Check anti-cheat compatibility โ EasyAntiCheat and BattlEye sometimes conflict with GearUP. Check the official game website or forums for known compatibility issues.
- Reinstall GearUP โ Fully uninstall GearUP (including the folder C:\Users{your profile}\AppData\Roaming\GearUP), download the latest version and reinstall.
Game freezes and stutters with GearUP
Symptoms: Game periodically freezes for 0.5โ2 seconds, character teleports or jerks, ping is fine but the game is unresponsive.
Cause: High jitter or packet loss โ GearUP may not help if the problem is inside your home network.
- Connect via Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi โ Wi-Fi is the primary source of jitter and packet loss. Even 5 GHz Wi-Fi is worse than a cable. An Ethernet cable eliminates most freezes.
- Restart the router โ Unplug the router for 30 seconds. Plug it back in. Wait for it to fully boot (2โ3 minutes). Try again.
- Limit background downloads โ Windows updates, torrents and cloud sync all create instability. Enable game traffic priority in your router settings (QoS) if supported.
- Switch region in GearUP โ A specific GearUP node may be running unstably. Switch to a different region and see if the situation changes.
Cannot purchase or pay for GearUP
Symptoms: Card is rejected on the GearUP website, payment error when trying to renew the subscription.
Cause: The official GearUP website may not accept all card types. Pay via our marketplace instead.
- Buy through Marix โ Our marketplace accepts card or crypto payments. The licence is delivered instantly.
FAQ
GearUP connected but ping is the same โ why?
Three reasons: 1) Wrong region selected โ your game uses a different server. 2) Your ISP already provides a good route; GearUP cannot improve it. 3) The game was launched before GearUP โ restart in the correct order.
Does restarting the router help?
Yes, it often does. The router accumulates connection state and sometimes routes traffic along suboptimal paths. A restart (unplug for 30 seconds) resets the routing table.
Does GearUP conflict with other software?
Conflicts are possible with: other network boosters (ExitLag, Mudfish, WTFast), aggressive antivirus software, and some VPN clients. Disable them before launching GearUP.
Why did GearUP stop working after a Windows update?
Windows updates sometimes reset network drivers. Reinstall GearUP completely: remove it via "Programs and Features", download the latest version from the website and reinstall.
GearUP is running but the game shows the same ping โ why?
Some games report ping directly to their servers, ignoring the optimised GearUP route. This does not mean GearUP is not working โ verify using the built-in Ping Test in GearUP.
