Airalo eSIM Shows No Service After Install โ How to Fix
You land in a new country, switch to the Airalo eSIM you bought, and the corner of the screen reads No Service. Familiar panic: you need data right now to book a cab, open a map, send a message. The fix usually takes 2-3 minutes, because Airalo eSIMs are deliberately designed not to activate until you reach the destination country.
Why this error happens
- eSIM not yet activated. Most Airalo packages auto-activate on the first network connection in the destination country. Before that the line cannot see any carrier.
- Data Roaming is off on the Airalo line. Technically Airalo is a foreign operator, so without Data Roaming enabled the line stays silent.
- Wrong line is selected for data. If Airalo is not set as Cellular Data, the phone keeps trying your home SIM, which may be off in roaming.
- APN mismatch. Most packages need APN
internetor a country-specific APN. An empty or mistyped APN lets you register but produces no actual data.
How to fix it
- Toggle Airplane Mode for 10 seconds, then turn it off. This forces the modem to re-scan and re-read the eSIM profile.
- iPhone: Settings โ Cellular โ select the Airalo line โ enable Turn On This Line. Right below, enable Data Roaming.
- Android (Pixel/Samsung): Settings โ Network & Internet โ SIMs โ select Airalo โ toggle Use SIM and Roaming.
- Make Airalo the data line. iPhone: Settings โ Cellular โ Cellular Data โ choose Airalo. Android: Settings โ SIMs โ Mobile data โ Airalo.
- Check the APN. Open the Airalo app โ My eSIMs โ your package โ APN. On iPhone enter it under Settings โ Cellular โ Airalo Line โ Cellular Data Network โ APN. On Android: Settings โ SIMs โ Airalo โ Access Point Names.
- Restart the phone. A full reboot helps with eSIM glitches more often than people expect.
- Wait 5-10 minutes after the first registration. In some countries the partner carrier authorizes the eSIM with a small delay.
No Service vs other states
| Status | Meaning | Action |
|---|---|---|
| No Service | Line not registered with any carrier | Reboot + enable Data Roaming |
| Searchingโฆ | Scanning networks | Wait 1-2 minutes |
| SOS Only | Only emergency network found | Pick carrier manually |
| 5G/LTE without internet | Registered but no data | Check APN |
Safer way to get a working eSIM
With Marix you buy an Airalo eSIM and pay in your local currency. Your account dashboard shows three things at once: the QR, the SM-DP+ address and the APN for the destination country. Install the eSIM before your flight (it self-activates on landing), enable Data Roaming on the Airalo line, and the network appears within the first minutes after touchdown. If anything goes wrong, Marix support answers in your language and helps you configure it, so you do not have to deal with an English chat in an unfamiliar airport.
