What is this error
The Apple Media Services Terms error โ sometimes worded as "You must agree to the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions" โ appears in the App Store, iTunes, or Apple TV+ when Apple has updated its Terms of Service and you have not yet accepted the new version.
Until you confirm your agreement, Apple blocks all purchases and downloads. This is a mandatory requirement before you can continue using Apple's services.
Why it happens
- Apple updated its Terms & Conditions. This happens several times a year, and each new version requires explicit user acceptance.
- Terms not accepted on all devices. If you use multiple iPhones, iPads, or Macs under the same Apple ID, the prompt may appear separately on each device.
- Account was inactive for a long time. If you haven't visited the App Store in a while, multiple rounds of updated terms may be waiting for your approval.
- Family Sharing accounts. The family organiser may need to accept terms on behalf of minor family members before everyone can make purchases.
Step-by-step fix
- Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad. Tap your profile avatar in the top-right corner and sign in if prompted.
- Accept the terms when prompted. The App Store usually shows a banner or pop-up asking you to review and agree to the Terms & Conditions.
- If no prompt appears, try via a browser. Go to appleid.apple.com, sign in, and look for a terms acceptance prompt there.
- Check iTunes or Music on a Mac. Open the app, sign into your Apple ID โ the prompt sometimes appears here instead of on mobile.
- Review Family Sharing settings. If you are the family organiser, go to Settings โ Apple ID โ Family Sharing and accept any pending terms for family members.
- Sign out of Apple ID and sign back in. This often triggers the terms prompt again. Go to Settings โ Apple ID โ Sign Out, then sign in again.
- Contact Apple Support. If none of the above works, chat with Apple at support.apple.com โ agents can manually reset the acceptance status on your account.
FAQ
Why does this error keep coming back even though I already accepted the terms? Apple regularly releases updated versions of its terms, and each revision requires a fresh acceptance. This is expected behaviour, not a bug.
Can I accept the terms without access to the App Store app? Yes โ visit appleid.apple.com in any browser or open iTunes on a computer. You can also temporarily change your device region, open the App Store, and accept the terms there.
Will my active subscriptions be affected? Depending on your region and subscription type, renewals may continue even if terms are pending. However, all new purchases will be blocked until you accept the updated terms.
Once you have accepted the terms, if payments still fail, Marix virtual cards work smoothly with App Store and Google Play and help avoid common payment restrictions.
