What is this error
The "Payment Not Completed" message appears when Apple attempts to charge your payment method for a purchase in the App Store, iTunes, iCloud, or another Apple service โ and the transaction fails. You may see it instantly after tapping "Buy" or receive it later as an email to the address linked to your Apple ID.
This error does not mean money was taken from your account. In most cases the charge was declined at the authorisation stage before any funds were moved.
Why it happens
Several factors can trigger this error:
- Insufficient funds. Your card balance is lower than the purchase amount, especially after currency conversion fees.
- International transactions blocked. Many banks disable cross-border payments by default, and Apple is billed as a foreign merchant in most countries.
- Billing address mismatch. Apple verifies that the billing address on file matches what your bank has registered.
- Outdated card details. An expired card or a mistyped card number or CVV will cause an immediate decline.
- Region mismatch. Your Apple ID is set to one country's App Store while your card is issued in another.
- Bank-side block. Your bank flagged the transaction as suspicious and blocked it automatically.
- Apple system outage. Rare, but possible โ check Apple System Status to confirm.
Step-by-step fix
- Check your card balance. Make sure you have enough funds, including any conversion or foreign transaction fees.
- Update payment details in Apple ID. Go to Settings โ your Apple ID โ Payment & Shipping โ edit or re-enter your card information.
- Verify your billing address. The address in your Apple ID settings must exactly match the one registered with your bank.
- Contact your bank. Call or chat with support and ask whether the payment was blocked on their end.
- Add an alternative payment method. You can add a second card or an App Store gift card in Apple ID settings.
- Use a virtual card. A virtual card issued in the correct region eliminates geo-restrictions and billing address mismatches.
- Wait and retry. If the cause is a temporary glitch, waiting 15โ30 minutes before trying again often resolves it.
FAQ
Could money still be deducted even if I see this error? Generally no โ a "payment not completed" error means the transaction was declined before funds were transferred. If you see a pending hold on your account, it should automatically disappear within 1โ7 business days.
Why does Apple lock my account after failed payments? Apple may temporarily suspend purchasing ability after several consecutive failures as a security measure. Update your payment method and contact Apple Support if the suspension persists.
Will changing my Apple ID region help? Changing your region is a last resort โ it cancels active subscriptions and restricts access to previously purchased content. A better option is to add a card that is compatible with your current region.
If none of the steps above worked, Marix provides virtual cards that are fully compatible with App Store and Google Play and bypass common issuer restrictions.
