Discord Nitro Gift Won't Redeem — Causes and Fixes
You receive a Discord Nitro gift link (discord.gift/xxxxxxxxxxx), click «Accept Gift» — and see «This gift has expired» or «This gift has already been claimed» or «Invalid Gift». The gift exists but cannot be activated. Discord has several reasons for this, and the fix depends on which one triggered.
Why this happens
- 48-hour window has passed. Discord Nitro gifts are valid for exactly 48 hours from the moment they are sent. After that the link turns «expired» and the gift is automatically returned to the sender.
- Gift was already claimed. If the link leaked into a public chat, sniping bots can claim it within seconds. Discord then shows «already been claimed».
- Regional block. Some Nitro gifts are region-locked — for example a gift purchased on a Turkish card may fail for a recipient in another region. Discord does not always show the reason explicitly.
- Account not verified. Accounts less than 5 minutes old, or without a confirmed email and phone number, cannot accept gifts.
- You already have an active subscription. If you have Nitro through Apple / Google with auto-renew, Discord sometimes refuses to stack a gift on top.
How to fix it
- Check the expiry. Open the link in a browser — Discord states whether it is expired or not. If expired, the sender must request a refund via Discord Support and send a new link.
- Verify the account. Settings → My Account → confirm email and phone. Discord silently rejects gifts on unverified accounts.
- Contact the sender. If the link says «already been claimed» but you did not redeem it, a bot most likely sniped it. The sender opens a Discord Support ticket; sometimes the gift is restored.
- Redeem in the app, not the browser. Open Discord desktop / mobile → Settings → Gift Inventory → paste the code part (everything after
discord.gift/). - Do not use a VPN at redemption. Discord pins IP on first touch. A sudden country change can temporarily block redemption.
