What "account inactive" means
If you see "Account inactive" or "Your account has been deactivated" when trying to log into Fortnite, it means one of the following: the account is suspended, temporarily locked, or requires identity verification.
This is different from a ban for cheating or rule violations. The "inactive" status is often technical in nature and can be reversed.
Root causes
Two-factor authentication (2FA) required. Since 2019, Epic Games has required all users to set up 2FA to access certain features. If 2FA is not enabled, the account may be restricted or deactivated.
Epic security policy violation. Suspicious activity โ logins from multiple countries, third-party attempts to access the account โ automatically locks the account as a protective measure.
Epic inactivity policy. Epic may deactivate accounts that have not been used for an extended period (typically over 2 years). Reactivation is handled through support.
Reports or anti-cheat flag. In rare cases, an account is locked due to mass reports or a false positive from the Easy Anti-Cheat system.
Incomplete registration or verification. The account was created but the registration email was never confirmed.
Step-by-step fix
Enable two-factor authentication. Go to epicgames.com โ "Account" โ "Security" โ "Two-Factor Authentication." Choose your preferred method: authenticator app, SMS, or email. Restrictions are often lifted automatically after enabling 2FA.
Confirm your email address. If you never clicked the verification link during registration, request a new confirmation email from your account settings.
Check your inbox. Search for emails from Epic with subjects like "Account Suspended," "Security Alert," or "Action Required." These typically contain a recovery link.
Reset your password. Deactivation is sometimes triggered by a suspected password compromise. Resetting your password via email often reactivates the account.
Contact Epic support. If the above steps don't work, open a ticket at epicgames.com/help. Include: account email, date of last login, platform, and a detailed description of the situation. Attach transaction IDs if applicable.
Frequently asked questions
Will my skins and V-Bucks be there after reactivation? Yes. All purchases are stored on Epic's servers and are not deleted during a deactivation.
How long does recovery via support take? Typically 1โ5 business days. During high-load periods, it can take up to 10 days.
Can I create a new account while waiting for the old one to be restored? Technically yes. But do not attempt to transfer purchases from the old account โ this violates Epic's policies.
Once your account is back, top up your V-Bucks balance easily. On Marix it takes under a minute. Buy V-Bucks on Marix.
