GearUP not helping in Brawl Stars โ why and what to do
GearUP Booster is marketed as a ping-reduction tool for mobile and PC games. But for Brawl Stars it often fails to help โ or even makes things worse. Here's why.
Why GearUP may not help
Brawl Stars uses Supercell's servers โ and the route to them is determined by your ISP and region. GearUP optimizes the routing path, but if the bottleneck is Supercell's server itself or your mobile carrier, GearUP can't fix that.
Mobile networks are inherently unstable. If you're playing over 4G/5G, ping spikes can come from switching between towers or weak signal โ GearUP doesn't control the radio network.
Wrong GearUP server selected. If the tool chose a node that's farther from Brawl Stars' servers than your direct connection, ping will increase rather than drop.
What to check
- Open GearUP and manually select the region closest to Supercell's servers (typically US West, Europe, or Asia โ depending on your account region).
- Try disabling GearUP and compare ping โ a direct connection is sometimes faster.
- Switch from Wi-Fi to wired or vice versa.
- Check Brawl Stars server status at brawlstars.com or on the official Twitter โ high ping may be on Supercell's end.
Alternative fixes
- Change DNS to 8.8.8.8 (Google) or 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare) โ this sometimes improves routing
- Switch your Wi-Fi channel โ a congested 2.4 GHz channel can cause unstable ping
- Contact your ISP โ if ping is consistently high, there may be a routing issue at the ISP level
When GearUP actually helps
GearUP works best when connecting to servers in another country (e.g. you're in Europe connecting to an Asian server). For intra-regional matches, the benefit is minimal.
Frequently asked questions
Is GearUP free?
There's a trial period. After that, a paid subscription is required. Before buying, verify it actually helps on your device and region.
Does Brawl Stars ban for using GearUP?
GearUP is a routing optimizer, not a cheat tool. Supercell does not ban accounts for using such tools.
What's a good ping in Brawl Stars?
Under 60ms โ excellent. 60โ120ms โ acceptable. Above 150ms โ noticeable lag and rubber-banding.
