Why GearUP might not help in Mobile Legends
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) servers are located primarily in Southeast Asia. Most players from Europe, the US, or Russia see 80โ200+ ms of ping due to physical distance alone. GearUP tries to address this by finding a faster route, but there are situations where improvement is limited. Here's why.
Root causes when GearUP doesn't help in MLBB
- Wrong GearUP server selected. If you play on the Original (SEA) server, you need a GearUP node oriented toward Southeast Asia.
- Physical distance is too large. The speed of light is a hard physical limit. If you are 8,000 km from the game server, no booster can push ping below roughly 50 ms even under ideal conditions.
- Mobile Legends not added to GearUP's game profiles. If the game isn't configured, its traffic bypasses the optimizer entirely.
- The issue is Wi-Fi or cellular instability, not routing. GearUP optimizes the route, not the wireless signal quality.
- MLBB traffic encryption interferes with interception. Some versions of the game use obfuscated traffic that prevents GearUP from correctly capturing packets.
Step-by-step fix
Step 1. Confirm Mobile Legends is added to GearUP
Open GearUP โ My Games. Find Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. If it's missing, add it manually through the search bar or browse the supported games catalog.
Step 2. Select the correct server region
In the MLBB profile settings inside GearUP, specify the server region you connect to in-game. For most players outside Southeast Asia this is the "Original Server" (Philippines/Singapore). Choose the corresponding GearUP node accordingly.
Step 3. Switch to Auto or Smart Mode
Enable automatic route selection. GearUP will benchmark several nodes and pick the fastest one for your connection.
Step 4. Use 5 GHz Wi-Fi or a wired connection
If you're on a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or mobile data, switch to 5 GHz or Ethernet. Wireless instability cannot be fixed by any routing booster.
Step 5. Check which server you're actually on
In MLBB, go to your profile and check your server ID. Make sure you haven't accidentally switched to a European or American server โ those have very different latency profiles.
Step 6. Close background apps
On mobile, close anything running in the background that uses the internet: YouTube, TikTok, cloud sync services. On PC, close torrents and update services.
Step 7. Try specific nodes manually
If Auto mode doesn't improve things, manually test nodes labeled "Singapore," "Hong Kong," or "Japan" โ these are geographically closest to MLBB's server infrastructure.
Frequently asked questions
What ping is considered normal in MLBB? For players connecting to the Original Server from outside Southeast Asia, 80โ130 ms is typical. Below 80 ms is excellent; above 200 ms causes noticeable lag.
Does GearUP work with mobile devices or only PC? GearUP is a Windows application. If you play MLBB on PC through an emulator like BlueStacks or LDPlayer, GearUP works normally. There is no direct mobile device support.
Are there alternatives to GearUP for lowering ping in MLBB? ExitLag and Wtfast are solid alternatives with similar routing technology. Keys for both are available on Marix.
