What "invalid code" means in Minecraft
The error "This code is not valid" (or "Invalid redemption code") during Minecraft activation is different from "code already redeemed." It means the system does not recognise the entered code as existing or as applicable to your account.
Common causes
Typo in the code. Minecraft codes contain letters and numbers, some of which look similar: O and 0, I and 1, B and 8. Even a single wrong character makes the code invalid.
Wrong redemption page. Minecraft Java and Bedrock are activated on different pages. Java Edition โ through minecraft.net. Bedrock Edition and other Microsoft products โ through account.microsoft.com โ "Redeem a code" or redeem.microsoft.com.
Code and account region mismatch. Some keys are issued for specific regions. If your Microsoft account is registered in a different region, the code may be rejected.
Incorrect code format. Minecraft keys have a specific structure (typically XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX or similar). Extra spaces or misplaced hyphens can cause the error.
Code is for a different product. Make sure you are entering a Minecraft key and not a key for DLC, Realms, Xbox Game Pass, or another product โ each has its own redemption page.
Step-by-step fix
Double-check the code character by character. Open the email or PDF containing the code, zoom in, and compare each character manually. Pay particular attention to O/0, I/1/l, and B/8.
Use the correct redemption URL.
- Java Edition: minecraft.net/redeem
- Bedrock Edition / Microsoft products: redeem.microsoft.com
Confirm you are signed in to the right Microsoft account. Your name or email should appear at the top of the redemption page. If not, sign in first.
Check your account region. Go to account.microsoft.com โ Personal info โ Country. Make sure the region matches the region of your key (your seller should be able to confirm this).
Copy and paste the code rather than typing it manually. If the code was delivered digitally, use Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V to eliminate input errors.
Contact your seller. If the code is entered correctly and still not accepted, reach out to the seller's support team. A reputable platform will check the code status and replace it if needed.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know I am on the right redemption page? For Minecraft Java โ look for the code entry field at minecraft.net. For Bedrock Edition and other Microsoft products โ use redeem.microsoft.com.
The code appears with hyphens but the input field does not accept them โ what do I do? Try entering only the letters and numbers without hyphens. Most systems accept both formats.
Do Minecraft keys expire? Minecraft keys do not have an expiry date unless the seller explicitly states otherwise. You can redeem them at any time.
If your key is not working, Marix will investigate quickly and assist with a replacement. Buy Minecraft with an activation guarantee.
