What the Oldubil Authorization Error Means
Oldubil is a Turkish prepaid card widely used for online payments within Turkey. The error "Yetersiz Yetkilendirme" (Insufficient Authorization) or "Yetkilendirme Hatası" (Authorization Error) appears when the card cannot complete the authorization step with a merchant.
It is important to understand that authorization and charge are two separate operations. Authorization is a temporary reservation of funds. The actual charge follows later. If authorization fails, the transaction does not go through at all.
Why Oldubil Fails Authorization
1. Balance is less than the authorization amount Many merchants authorize an amount larger than the actual purchase price:
- Hotels may block 1.5–2x the booking amount
- Gas stations place a fixed hold ($50–$100) before fueling
- Rental services require a security deposit
If your Oldubil card has exactly the purchase amount and no more, an authorization with a hold will fail.
2. Merchant is outside supported regions Oldubil is a Turkish card. International payments are limited or entirely unavailable. Attempting to pay a foreign online merchant often results in a decline.
3. Transaction limit exceeded Oldubil imposes per-transaction and daily spending limits. Exceeding them results in an automatic decline.
4. Card not activated for online payments By default, some Oldubil features — particularly international online payments — may be disabled. Activation is done through the app or by calling customer support.
5. Card has expired Oldubil prepaid cards have an expiration date. Once expired, the card stops working entirely.
Step-by-Step Fix
Step 1. Top up with a buffer. Before making a payment, add 20–30% more than the purchase amount to your card to accommodate potential authorization holds.
Step 2. Activate online payments. In the Oldubil app or via the call center, confirm that online payments — especially international ones (yurt dışı ödemeler) — are enabled.
Step 3. Check your card's expiration date. Verify on the card or in the app that the card has not expired.
Step 4. Confirm the merchant accepts Turkish cards. Some international platforms filter cards by BIN and decline Turkish prepaid cards.
Step 5. Contact Oldubil support. Call the number on the website or use the app to find out the specific reason for the decline and enable any needed features.
