Riot Account Country Doesn't Match Card Region — How to Change It
You bought a Valorant Points card for Turkey, but your account is registered as EU West — and the code won't redeem. Logical next step: switch the account region to Turkey. But there's no such button in Riot Client or on account.riotgames.com. That's not a bug — Riot deliberately blocks UI region changes, for two reasons: fraud prevention and billing lock.
Why this error happens
- Account country is set at signup. The Country field in
account.riotgames.com→ Personal Information is locked after registration and cannot be changed in settings. This is different from the game region (EUW/NA/TR — servers), which is freely changeable in Riot Client. - Game region ≠ billing region. You can play on Turkish servers while staying in EU billing, and vice versa. VP cards check billing country, not server.
- Riot blocks price arbitrage. If users could freely change country, everyone would mass-move to Turkey or Argentina for cheap VP. That's why the UI doesn't allow it.
- Support-only changes are restricted to real relocations. Riot Support will change your country only if you've actually moved and can prove the new address (utility bill, ID, etc.).
How to fix it
- Check your current account country.
account.riotgames.com→ Personal Information → Country. If it says Germany but your card is Turkey — that's the mismatch. - Don't try to spoof with VPN. Riot reads country from registration data, not current IP. VPN changes nothing.
- Submit a country-change ticket to Riot Support.
support.riotgames.com→ Submit a Ticket → Account Management → I need to change my country. State the new country and attach a proof of residence (optional but helps). - Expect rejection. Riot approves country changes rarely — mostly only for real moves. Review takes 7–14 days.
- Easier path: buy a card matching your current region. It's instant and guaranteed to redeem. Prices differ but not by a catastrophic margin.
