Spotify Premium invitation expired instantly — how to fix
You sent a Spotify Premium Duo or Family invite link — and the recipient sees "link expired" or "invitation invalid." This is a common issue with specific, fixable causes.
Why the invite link expires
Limited link lifetime. Spotify Premium Duo and Family invitations are only valid for 72 hours from the time they're sent. If the recipient opened the link after that window — it's already dead.
Household location mismatch. Spotify Premium Duo and Family require all members to live at the same address. The system checks this via device geolocation, IP address, and GPS. If the invitee is in a different city or country, the link will be rejected or immediately deactivated.
Link opened in a browser instead of the app. Some email clients pre-fetch links to check for spam — this counts as a "visit" and can consume the invite before the recipient even sees it.
How to fix it
Step 1. Resend the invitation In the Spotify app → Account → Premium Family/Duo → "Invite member" → the new link is valid for 72 hours.
Step 2. Ask the recipient to open the link in the Spotify app The link should be opened inside the Spotify app on the recipient's device — not in a browser.
Step 3. Check geolocation Make sure both accounts have the same home address in the profile and that location permissions are enabled. Spotify may verify location when the invite is accepted.
Step 4. Disable VPN A VPN on the recipient's device at the moment of accepting the invite can show the "wrong" location — Spotify will block the join.
