Steam Code Already Redeemed Error — How to Get a Refund
When redeeming a Steam Wallet or gift card code, you see «This code has already been redeemed». Valve's database has already marked that PIN as used. The most painful case is when you just bought the code yourself and have not even entered it — but even then the situation is fixable. The key is to act fast while the seller is still reachable.
Why this error occurs
- The previous owner already redeemed it. If you bought the code second-hand or from a reseller, the prior buyer may have credited the funds to their own wallet and then resold the PIN.
- Marketplace fraud. On platforms without seller verification, one code is listed in parallel by multiple sellers — the first activation wins, everyone else gets «already redeemed».
- Forum and Telegram bot scrapers. If a code was ever posted publicly, even briefly in a screenshot, automated scrapers pick it up in seconds.
- Seller mistake. Occasionally a seller accidentally sends a PIN from an old order they already used themselves.
How to fix it
- Screenshot the error immediately. Capture the full Steam message and the time of the attempt — both the seller and Valve will ask for it.
- Contact the seller within 24 hours. The faster you write, the higher the chance of a replacement or refund. Legitimate stores carry an activation guarantee for exactly this case.
- Do not share the PIN code itself. Send the seller only the error screenshot and the order email. If you paste the full PIN in an open ticket, scrapers may grab it.
- If you have a receipt, open a Steam Support ticket. Steam → Help → Steam Support → Purchases → I have a question about my Steam Wallet code → attach the seller invoice (PDF) and the error screenshot.
- Use a bank chargeback only as a last resort. A chargeback can lock your Steam account if Valve links the dispute to it.
Who can actually help
| Who to contact | When it works |
|---|---|
| Seller (legit store) | Almost always — replacement or refund |
| Seller (private listing/forum) | Rarely, often ignored |
| Steam Support | Only with an official seller invoice |
| Bank (chargeback) | Last resort, account risk |
The safer way to top up Steam
Buy your Steam Wallet codes through Marix — each PIN is sold exactly once, generated from a closed inventory right after payment, and delivered by email only to the buyer. If a code still arrives invalid, support replaces it the same day with no back-and-forth. Activation is standard: Steam → Add funds to your Steam Wallet → Redeem a Steam Wallet code.
