What Is This Error
You added funds to your Steam wallet or redeemed a gift card, but the balance hasn't updated. The transaction history shows "Pending." This doesn't mean the money is lost โ the transaction simply hasn't been finalized yet.
Why It Happens
Steam uses several payment gateways, and processing time depends on the method you chose.
Bank transfer or SEPA. These methods take 2โ5 business days. A Pending status is completely normal during this time.
Card payment held by the bank. Some banks hold Steam transactions for additional review because gaming merchants are sometimes flagged as higher-risk.
Incomplete 3D Secure challenge. If the payment required 3DS confirmation but the challenge wasn't completed, the payment can hang in Pending rather than being declined outright.
New account restrictions. Steam holds transactions from new accounts for up to 72 hours as a fraud prevention measure.
Steam gift card redemption. Redeeming a Steam Gift Card should credit the wallet instantly. If it hasn't, there may be an issue with the card itself or the code.
Payment gateway technical delay. Occasionally Steam or its payment provider experiences technical issues that delay transaction processing.
Step-by-Step Fix
Wait 24 hours. Most card transactions on Steam process within a few hours, but can take up to 24 hours.
Check your bank statement. Look in your banking app to see whether the funds were actually charged. If the money hasn't left your account, the transaction was likely declined and the Pending status in Steam will update on its own.
Verify your 3D Secure was completed. If the payment required an SMS or bank app confirmation, make sure you completed it. An unfinished 3DS session leaves the payment in Pending indefinitely.
Check Steam's transaction history. Go to Steam โ Account โ Store & Purchase History. If the transaction doesn't appear at all, it was declined at the bank level before reaching Steam.
Wait up to 72 hours for new accounts. If your Steam account is new (less than 30 days old), Steam may hold funds for security review.
Contact Steam Support at help.steampowered.com if more than 72 hours have passed and the funds still haven't arrived. Provide the amount, date, and last 4 digits of the card.
Contact your bank. If the funds left your card but haven't appeared in Steam after 3 business days, ask your bank for a transaction confirmation document. Steam Support may require this.
