Valorant 'Purchase Failed, Try Again Later' — How to Get Around It
"Purchase failed, please try again later" is Riot's most unhelpful error. It shows up on VP, Battle Pass or Premier Pass checkout and explains nothing — not why, not which payment method might work. In practice it's a catch-all for four very different problems, and each has its own fix.
Why this error happens
- Riot payment gateway hiccup. Riot uses different processors per region: Adyen in EU, local providers in Turkey and Brazil. If a processor is briefly down, every card payment returns this generic error. Usually self-resolves in 30–60 minutes.
- Card region restriction. A Russian, Kazakh or other foreign Visa/Mastercard on an EU/Turkey account is a common trigger. Riot blocks foreign BINs on regional storefronts.
- Rate limit. If you tried multiple times in a row (even with different cards), Riot temporarily locks all purchases for an hour.
- Fraud screen on new accounts. Accounts under 30 days old get extra scrutiny — large purchases often fail without a reason.
How to fix it
- Wait one hour and retry. Don't hammer the button every 1–2 minutes — it only extends the block. Step away for an hour.
- Verify your account region.
account.riotgames.com→ Personal Information → Country. If the country doesn't match your card's issuing country, the error returns. - Try a different payment method. Riot Client → Store → checkout offers Credit Card, PayPal, Prepaid Card and local methods (Mobile Payment in TR, Pix in Brazil). Click through the alternatives.
- Remove the saved card.
account.riotgames.com→ Payment Methods → Remove. Riot sometimes caches a "bad" card and keeps reusing it. - Switch to a Prepaid Card. That bypasses the gateway entirely: enter a 12-digit code in Riot Client → Settings → Account → Redeem Codes and VP credit without any card check.
