Xbox Code Region Locked: 'Not Available in Your Region' Error Fix
You bought a cheaper Xbox code from the Argentina or Turkey Store, entered it on redeem.microsoft.com, and got back: "This code isn't available in your region" or "The code you entered cannot be redeemed in your current region." Good news — this is fixable in 5 minutes, and you don't need to return the code. Bad news — since 2024, Microsoft has limited how often you can change your account region.
Why this happens
- Codes are region-bound. Every Xbox code is issued for a specific Store region: Argentina (ARS), Turkey (TRY), USA (USD), and so on. An Argentina code will not redeem on a USA or EU account.
- Region is determined by
account.microsoft.com→ Profile → Country/region, not by IP. A VPN at redeem time will not help. - Game Pass and subscription codes are stricter. Subscription codes (Game Pass Ultimate, EA Play) are often more tightly region-locked than wallet gift cards.
- You can't change region more than once every 3 months. This is Microsoft's key restriction for 2025–2026.
How to fix it
- Check your account region. Open
account.microsoft.com→ Your info → Country/region. If it says United States but your code is Argentina — that's the cause. - Switch your account region to the code's region. On the same page, click Edit, pick the country the code was issued for (e.g. Argentina), and save. Microsoft may ask for a local address — any valid local address works for this step (a hotel address or public business address is fine; address verification at redeem time is minimal).
- Wait 15–30 minutes. The region change doesn't propagate instantly, especially to consoles. On Xbox console, sign out and back in.
- Re-enter the code on
redeem.microsoft.com. After the region change, it should now activate. - If it still fails, you may have exceeded the region-change limit (once per 90 days). If so, you'll need to wait or redeem on a different account that matches the code region.
