What Is This Error
When trying to subscribe to YouTube Premium, you see "Your payment profile doesn't match your location" or "Payment profile mismatch." YouTube won't let you complete the subscription even if the card is valid and has sufficient funds.
Why It Happens
YouTube Premium uses the Google Pay payment system and ties payments to a Google payments profile, which has its own country setting. The mismatch occurs for several reasons.
Google payments profile country doesn't match the region. Every Google account has a payments profile with a fixed country. If that country differs from the card's country or your current location, a conflict arises.
YouTube Premium is unavailable in the profile's country. YouTube Premium doesn't operate in every country. If the payments profile country is one where YouTube Premium is not available (e.g. Russia after it was disabled there), payment is impossible.
Card from a different country. YouTube requires the card to match the payments profile's country. A card from a different country will be rejected when you try to add it to a profile with a mismatched country.
IP address doesn't match the profile. Google monitors your IP and may block profile changes or payments if the IP and profile country don't align.
Payments profile is suspended. Google can suspend a payments profile due to suspicious activity, failed payments, or terms of service violations.
Step-by-Step Fix
Check your Google payments profile country. Go to payments.google.com. The country of your payments profile is displayed there — this is the key piece of information.
Change the payments profile country. On payments.google.com, click Settings and update the country. Note: you can only change the country once per year and there must be no active subscriptions at the time.
Use a card matching the new profile country. After changing the country, add a card with billing in that country. Marix issues cards with US and European billing.
Connect without a VPN. When changing the profile country and subscribing, make sure your VPN is off — your IP must match the new profile country.
Subscribe through the iOS/Android app. Sometimes mobile app payments work more smoothly because the App Store / Google Play has its own payment processing logic.
Wait 24 hours after changing the country. Changes to a Google payments profile don't always take effect instantly. Try subscribing the next day.
