YouTube Premium 'Not Available in Your Country' — Workarounds
When you try to subscribe at youtube.com/premium Google says «YouTube Premium is not available in your country yet» or «This service isn't available in your country». In Russia the buy button disappeared in March 2022, and Russian cards are not accepted even on foreign accounts. This is not a temporary issue — it is a regional restriction.
Why this happens
- Google paused payments in RU and BY. Google Play and YouTube Premium stopped accepting local payment methods in March 2022. Existing subscriptions continued, but new ones cannot be opened.
- Regional pin on the Google account. The account country is tied to the payment profile and cannot be changed more than once a year.
- IP-based antifraud. Even with a foreign account, Google checks the IP. A Russian IP on a Turkish account raises the risk score.
- Family Plan / Premium Plan tied to region. A Family subscription only works when all members are confirmed as residents of one country. Being abroad for more than 14 days auto-removes a member.
How to fix it
- Family Plan from a member in a supported country. The easiest path: a friend or relative in Turkey, UAE, Argentina or India adds you to their family. Family Plan is cheaper and does not run regional checks against members.
- YouTube Premium gift card. Available for the US, UK and a few others. Redeem on youtube.com/redeem — balance lands on the Google account and renews the subscription.
- Change Google account country. In the payment profile at pay.google.com → Settings → Country. Allowed once a year, with a local address and payment method.
- Ready account with active subscription. If juggling region changes and Family Plans is too much, you can buy access to an account that already has Premium on.
- Avoid frequent VPN switching. Google catches IP-vs-region mismatches. Sudden country changes can lock the payment profile.
