Why Apps Are Unavailable in Google Play After Changing Country
After changing region in Google Play, you may notice that some apps no longer appear in the store or are unavailable for installation. Here's why.
Reason: Developer Regional Restrictions
App developers can restrict their product's availability to specific countries. This is the developer's decision, not Google's.
Example: a Russian bank's app may only be available in the Russian Google Play region. After switching to Turkish โ it disappears from the store.
What Happens to Already-Installed Apps
Good news: already installed apps remain on the device. You can open and use them. But:
- Updates may stop coming
- Reinstalling from the new region won't be possible
- Some app features may stop working (if tied to a region)
What to Do
If the app is important: Don't change region if you critically need this app.
If you already changed: The needed app can be installed via APK (file from another source). This works, but there are security risks.
Workaround: Create a second account with the previous region โ specifically for apps available there.
Apps That Typically Disappear When Switching to Foreign Region
- Russian bank apps
- Some Russian services (government services portals, etc.)
- Regional games with geo-restrictions
Summary
App disappearance is an expected result of changing region. Before switching, confirm needed apps are available in the new region. Help with setup โ at marix.app.
