How Google Play Region Differs from Payment Profile Region
The short answer โ they're the same thing. But let's dig deeper, because Google uses different terms in different parts of the interface.
What Is "Google Play Region"
In Google Play settings, you see a "Country and profiles" section. This is the Google Play region โ the country your payment account is linked to.
What Is the "Payment Profile"
In Google Payments (payments.google.com), there's a "payment profile" โ this is a set of data including:
- Country (region)
- Payment methods (cards)
- Billing address
- Tax information (for some countries)
The Connection
Google Play region = country in the Google Payments payment profile. When you change country in Google Play settings โ you're actually changing the country in the payment profile.
Why Confusion Arises
Google sometimes separates them in the interface:
- In Google Play โ "Country and profiles" โ one country shown
- In Google Payments โ may show a different profile
If they diverge โ this is a non-standard situation. Usually they match.
What Actually Affects Purchases
Prices and availability are determined by the payment profile country. That's what you see in Google Play โ Settings โ Country.
Summary
For practical purposes, Google Play region = payment profile region. Both affect prices and payment methods. marix.app can help you sort out the settings.
