Why Turkey region prices rose sharply
Back in 2022–2023, the Turkish region on Steam and PSN was the undisputed champion of cheap gaming: new releases cost the equivalent of $3–8. Today the picture has changed. Here is why.
1. Turkish lira devaluation
The Turkish lira (TRY) lost more than 75% of its value against the US dollar between 2021 and 2024. This meant that a $10 game in dollar terms cost progressively fewer lira — making TRY prices ridiculously low for foreign buyers.
2. Platforms adjusted their pricing
Responding to the extreme discount, Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox began raising lira-denominated prices to bring them closer in line with other regions. Valve conducted several price-revision waves in 2023–2024. Sony and Microsoft followed a similar course.
3. Lira stabilization in 2025–2026
After Turkey's monetary policy shift in 2024, the Central Bank raised interest rates, slowing the lira's depreciation. This removed one of the main drivers of extreme discounts.
How much prices rose and what remains
| Platform | Discount vs. US price (2024) | Discount vs. US price (2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Steam | 70–85% | 40–60% |
| PSN | 65–80% | 45–65% |
| Xbox | 55–70% | 35–55% |
These are approximate figures; exact values depend on the specific game and the exchange rate on the day of purchase.
Despite the increases, Turkey still ranks in the top 3 most affordable regions. Savings of 40–65% remain substantial — especially for expensive new releases.
Is the Turkey region still worth it in 2026?
Yes, with some caveats:
- For expensive AAA games (base price $50–70), savings remain significant — $20–40 per purchase.
- For games priced at $10–20, the difference has become less compelling.
- PSN Turkey is still one of the best regional options for PlayStation content.
Frequently asked questions
Will Turkey prices fall again? Hard to predict. If the lira resumes depreciation, platforms will likely raise TRY prices again to prevent extreme discounts from returning.
Which regions are now cheaper than Turkey? Argentina and India have overtaken Turkey in many categories. See our full cheapest gaming regions guide for a detailed comparison.
Did prices rise equally for all games in Turkey? No. Some publishers follow Valve's recommendations and update prices; others haven't revised theirs in years. Individual games can vary significantly.
Bottom line
The Turkey region got more expensive, but it hasn't disappeared from the radar. Savings of 40–65% are still among the best of any region. On Marix you will find up-to-date Turkish gift cards for Steam, PSN, and Xbox.
